Greetings! I am excited to be joining you as your minister for the next six months while Woodcliff continues to search for a new permanent minister. Thanks to all who have been so welcoming in my first week on the job! I am a diaconal minister, which means I feel called to follow Jesus, building bridges between the church and world. It is an interesting coincidence that you at Woodcliff have been exploring the image of bridges over the past few months. We have something in common right from the start! I started my paid ministry as a staff associate working with the children and families of St. David’s United. I then joined Wild Rose United, where I worked with Rev. Linda Hunter in the areas of pastoral care and education and began my formal education for ministry at the Centre for Christian Studies. From there we moved to Kelowna where I worked with First United and finished my studies. I was commissioned in 2009 and joined Stettler United as their full-time minister. Since moving back to Calgary, I spent another six months at Wild Rose United while they were in the same situation you are in now, searching for their next permanent minister. I’ve also been doing pulpit supply at various Calgary churches, including Woodcliff in 2015. On a more personal note, I am married to Mike, who you will see around the church as well. We have two grown children, one living nearby in Bragg Creek with her husband and our two wonderful little grandsons and the other living across the country in Halifax.
I very much look forward to meeting you all over the next few months. I am with you half time so will lead half the worship services. Your transition team has worked diligently to find three fabulous retired ministers to fill in the other half of the services so you can look forward to hearing from Rev. Bob Mutlow, Rev. Dr. Grant Dawson and Rev. Clint Mooney as well.
May hope, peace, joy and love be yours as we walk together with the Holy into 2018.
Blessings, Reverend Debbie Stockdale
