Who We Are

Get to know your church community.

We are Woodcliff United Church

Our Sunday Worship is at the heart of our community life where we gather together at 10 am each week both in person and virtually to worship.

But our wonderful church is buzzing with activity all week long. The strength of any church is in the dedication of its members. Woodcliff is fortunate to have a strong, caring group of volunteers helping in the life and work of Woodcliff United Church. We invite you to explore more about what we offer under Programs & Events and Ministries.

Our Mission:

Together we worship and praise God, grow as Christians, practice intentional inclusion and share our journey in friendship and service.

Our Vision:

Woodcliff United strives to be a vibrant, caring and inclusive community living our faith.

  • All are welcome here.  Wherever you are on your faith journey, whomever you love, whatever your age, race, gender or cultural identity, whatever your abilities or resources. You are welcome here!

As an affirming church, we practice intentional inclusion so that everyone knows they are welcome and loved.

Whether you are new to our church or a long time member, you can feel safe and supported wherever you are in your spiritual journey.

We believe that every person is sacred and is a gift of God.  We value full participation of all in all aspects of our life together.  We intend to create a safe space for all to share their talents and be who they really feel called to be.

  • We do outreach initiatives by caring for people locally and globally. At Woodcliff United, social justice issues are at the heart of many initiatives we embrace. As a Spirit-led people, we seek justice and reconciliation for all. For more information see Ministries.

  • At Woodcliff United, we focus on connection and support by providing programs and community care through various ministries (see Ministries tab for more information). In essence, we strive to make a difference for those in our church family and in the world around us.

  • We try to live out the teachings of Jesus with openness, grace and love through all of our programs. For more information see Programs & Events.

Our history - 65 years & counting!

Woodcliff United Church is a member of the wider United Church of Canada and was chartered on April 7, 1957. In 1960, through the generous land gift of the Edworthy family, a Christian Education Building was erected on the former Shaganappi Ranch site, which is now the entrance to Edworthy Park. Woodcliff serves the southwest communities of Spruce Cliff, Wildwood, Rosscarrock, Westgate, Coach Hill, Strathcona, Signal Hill, Patterson, with an increasing outreach to the newer developing communities on the west side of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

In March 2021, Woodcliff United Church celebrated a new designation as an Affirming Community of Faith. WUC is a member of AffirmUnited / S’affirmer Ensemble, which is a partner of the United Church of Canada for the support of all gender identities and sexual orientations.  Affirming Ministries acknowledge that God’s love is wider and more encompassing than they can imagine, let alone live out, and they commit themselves to sharing that news with others.
